This has been playing on my mind for a while now. There have been so many heartbreaking reports in the Media about people, including children, going missing or taking their own lives.As someone who was on the edge a few years ago, I know how it feels to be so low that you no longer want to go on. The emptiness despite having everything and everyone, is not something you can explain or even talk about sometimes. Luckily for me, being pulled out of that situation woke me up to what I had, and the drive to live and thrive began. Some have left home for various reasons and have been missing for a while, while others have returned. It breaks my heart when I see children and teenagers missing, as we know the world can be a dangerous place, more so when you are vulnerable and inexperienced. Mental health and loneliness can manifest in loud or quiet ways. It can be obvious, and most often, it is not. People in crisis often deal with it in the shadows and in silence. Don't expect them to kick and scream for help, as it is labelled and dismissed. I have heard people casually mention in friendship groups that a friend is so "draining." Why? Because they were grieving a loss and deeply saddened. This made me want to shut down my own grief, as I didn't want people to think the same of me.Please reach out to friends and family. If you ever get that thought or feeling to call or message someone, please do it right away. It could literally be the intervention they needed at the right time. Information for helplines should be available more widely so that, especially children who are struggling, have someone or somewhere to ask for help.
