Spiritual Development Insights

My job gives me access to people’s lives and experiences. People open up about the “paranormal” things that happen or their own spiritual experiences without fear of judgement. Who am I to judge? I get judged all the time as someone who is offering a personal service to bridge the gap between us and the Spirit world. I do get funny looks, snide remarks and the occasional nasty message from the non believers. Sometimes it hurts because it can get very personal and but most of the time, I feel sorry for them, as they are so quick to dismiss something that could bring so much clarity and comfort. But it doesn’t matter as I know who I am and where I stand with the people who love me and the Spirit world who support me in my work. I have been taught by some of the best mediums in the UK and the US as well as those accredited by the Spiritualists’ National Union ( with whom I hope to continue my education in the near future) who are all very tough and rigorous in their teachings.

So, never feel apprehensive or scared of contacting me to ask questions or spiritual guidance. All my workshops for example are  fantastic places for people struggling with their spirituality to come forward to learn but also to share their experiences, no matter how weird. Part of my mission is to help people feel comforted rather than to “fear” spirit. We have been forced fed myths about spirit and the spirit world for centuries. All based on FEAR and prejudice. The moment you are different and can see or know something others don’t, then you get labelled as witches or charlatans who were sometimes used by the higher powers and then prosecuted. Personally I think people in the olden days who were spiritually aware were extremely vulnerable, had no role models, didn’t know how to use their gifts and ended up being overbearing at times. They would have either been elevated to God like status instantly and once the “power” diminished possibly due to not taking care of themselves or just having self doubt which happens when we are under a huge amount of stress put on by people’s expectation, deemed a charlatan and prosecuted. So we have been conditioned to fear and to be skeptical. I think its a good thing to be skeptical. It may surprise you but I am pretty skeptical. I am not a very “airy fairy”  and like to keep it simple.Children seeing ghosts

As a natural born medium who has gone through training to refine my abilities, I am very much aware of the do’s and don’ts. Once I hear someone say they have been to a reading which was like a “counselling session” for example, I know that is what it was, a counselling session, not a reading! During training, we are taught to be careful not to impose our own opinions or thoughts into the reading. The clarity is given either by spirit themselves or through the person’s soul via the psychic link. It is important for the reader to know when they are working psychic and when their own thoughts are clouding their messages. I remember during a workshop I was teaching when a lady who was in fact a counselor, veered off from a reading into a counselling session. She was really surprised as she had no idea she was tapping into her own thoughts but instead thought she was working psychic with cards. I think being a tad skeptical in my industry is a good thing as it keeps me grounded and also helps me keep a level head. A friend of mine who does sound healing and I were discussing how easy it is to get certificates for things like tarot reading and sound healing. We even found some below £30 which you can do online and get a certificate in less than two weeks!  In all honesty, you can teach yourself tarot or Angel cards.

12671934_1672347756386406_388656568295542139_oThere are two ways to do it – read the books page to page and you can use a system to know what the card indicates – relationships, positive or negative, is  it  major or minor Arcana which gives you a clue about what is happening in their lives etc. There is no huge mystery with cards – its based on the Law of Attraction. Your soul helps to pick the cards for you using the energy infused into them during the shuffle. There is a system which if you master you can read a person’s circumstances to a tee. As I was taught to use it differently,as a psychic tool in my lessons, and because I am lazy, I never really took the time to read too much into the cards. I prefer to work with them psychically and to use Angel cards but put away the manual which comes with it. I say what drops into my minds eye, how I feel about the card, what I see in my third eye. This is a little harder because you really have to trust yourself here as it has to be pure. I am like a child who has been give a bag of candies when the sitter can relate to the messages. It does get interesting when talking to other psychics or medium and they interpret the cards completely different to how I do and vice versa. Also the same card can have different meanings or messages for different people. There is no right or wrong way to do it, as long as the sitter gets the messages they need.

But the key is you need practice, be face to face with a teacher, spiritual abilities and understand the fundamentals of providing readings to the public. You will make mistakes and a teacher can help you refine your way of working, explain things to you and see where you need help. You don’t get that on an online course!

Your words can break or shape someone’s life. You must take time to get acquainted with the cards, with your own personal spirituality and know how to use your abilities before you can even venture into making a living from this. This is why you do have people who are very skeptical about people in this industry. My friend was aghast at the very thought that you could be a qualified sound therapist online without the “teacher” even hearing how the student works with element or their energies!

You MUST work on your own spiritual gifts first, understand what you have, what the difference are so you know what you are doing, get a feel of your spiritual path BEFORE you go off trying to get certified as a card reader, healer or anything which offers you a quick way to be a practitioner. I have seen a number of people who have been fed a lot of nonsense including one who went for a healing session and got convinced to learn Reiki and being rather vulnerable and overwhelmed agreed. She came to be in such a state and took me a while to calm her down and bring her back to normal. I was told by my guides (my guides are not very chatty but they intervened straight away) that the teacher was not very experienced and had opened up a channel in this lady who was clearly not ready for such an experience. It also appears she was undulated with too much “whoo hoo” stuff which she didn’t understand. There are huge repercussions when people are not careful. Lives can be affected and people can get overwhelmed.

You can get very carried away with everything and lose your focus sometimes. I try to surround myself with people with the same ethos as myself which is wonderful. I instigated a retreat for this weekend with a friend but things came up so I couldn’t go but seeing how it all panned it out has been lovely. Hopefully I will be doing the next one. Lots of healing, workshops, meditation, creativity and bonding in a cottage somewhere beautiful. Let me know if you want to come along to the next one. It will be in the UK and won’t take too long to drive to.

I intended to blog about something else entirely but as usual one of my guides took over and this is about guidance about working spirituality and hopefully it will help someone. The message is to be careful, take your time and do things properly, not just because it is easy!

Today is the last of the super new moons of the year.  I have shared some insights here: https://www.facebook.com/angelamitchellmedium

Have a lovely weekend!

Mercury Retrograde….brings us closer to our life purpose

Mercury Retrograde….brings us closer to our life purpose

2016 is an important year for many reasons. The numbers 2,0, 1 and 6 comes up to 9 which has a strong spiritual vibration. It is a power packed number and thus brings about big changes to some of us. I see this in the wonderful people book in for a reading. More and more are coming to strong crossroads. This is a make or break year for some of us. You will be forced to face facts and seek your life purpose. No longer are you going to drift around and let life pass you by. You will want know your soul purpose and make things happen. How many of us saw this Facebook  status “I hope this year is going to be better. Last year was horrible” on NYE ? Perhaps it was you who posted it, after a frustrating year. Why do we go from one year to the next, feeling the same level of frustration and expect change to happen without changing any of our own behaviour patterns? Why doesn’t the new year clear the slate and allow us to start again after the clock strikes 12? The reason is simple. You carry forward the bad relationship, the angina, the financial issues and the horrible boss into every month, year or day. It doesn’t just go away because of change in time! I found a fantastic quote which made so much sense – “2016 is not going to change unless you do“. Let’s face it, time is almost like sand in your hands. What makes it tangible and interesting is the memories, the people, the emotions and the experiences. What makes it heavy and difficult is the challenges – losing people we love, dealing with health and emotional issues and difficulties.

The problem will remain the same but how we deal with it, view it and work with it, influences your emotions and your life experience. There are different approaches to every problem, just like the man who encountered a huge rock on his path, he could either try to move the rock, climb it or walk around it. It all depends on his perspective and attitude. Seen as a huge challenge, then the choice is to give up or turn back. The shift here is to view the rock as a positive challenge to overcome, like how a mountain climber would. In this state of mind, the man would find ways to get to the other side. It took me a long time to get to the “other side” but it has made a huge difference to my life. It is never to late to change and shift your awareness . Once you change your perspective of life, things will get less complex and easier to manage. If a problem looks like a large slab of ice then you need to chip away at it until it breaks down and becomes  more manageable.

2016 is going to bring complete turnabout in not only your own life situation but in your very soul and will touch you very deeply. You will see a shift in your own behaviour, be able to see things clearly and sense a departure from the old into the new. Challenges and situations will be thrown onto your path and you WILL have to face it. Sweeping it under the carpet is no longer an option but I sense a positive outcome so keep the fate. I am seeing more and more men and women facing relationship breakdowns, huge shifts in their emotions over their life right now who WANT to make changes but not sure of the why, what and whens.  Often the reason they sought the reading is different from what they actually needed to face or change. The clarity and direction in a psychic reading pulls out the disease not the symptom. Once you get to the core then it all makes sense. So many people walk through my doors with heavy hearts and leave with smiles, hugs and feeling lighter! This is one of the perks of the job, to see the begins of a transformation.

You see, facing the truth doesn’t always need to be a bad thing. There are times in our lives when we have to get real and make changes to live a happier life. End of a relationship is huge but if it is to enable you to live the life you were meant to live, then its not a bad thing is it? What if your purpose was to open a cafe in southern Spain, bathe in warm sea water every morning and speak Spanish? What if your purpose was to retrain and become a teacher instead of a stay at home mum? What if you could be happier with someone who accepts you for who you are instead of the person who constantly criticises you for being who you are? Until you address your life purpose and break these behaviour patterns, you will always be in the “same zone”. The place where everything changes except for you.

Just drifting and “just being” is no longer good enough. Time to take charge and in charge! I am also seeing “spirituality” “Awakening” “intuition” “Angels” floating around a lot more in conversations and on social media. 2016 is a big year for us human beings.

There is a huge shift in our consciousness and people are starting to wake up! We are all born with intuition, inner knowing and understanding  but it lays dormant until there is an “awakening”. Some of get it earlier on, like myself when I was a child I knew there was more to what i was seeing and feeling. I saw spirits, heard them and  messages kept rolling in. Others go through difficulty and then WHAM! something happens to open their third eye to the other realm. When I first moved to my town, I didn’t hear anything about spiritualism or mediums but now its exploding by the minute! I am so lucky to have a beautiful Angel who arranges one of the best Mind, Body and Spirit fayres around – Janine who showcases some of the area’s best psychics and mediums. Of course social media helps to engage people sitting on the fence as far as the spirit world is concerned.

The number nine is the end of the phase so whatever that started one, two or three years ago, will come to completion. Whatever that no longer serves your highest good will come to an end. There will be new people, paths and clarity to take you one step closer to your highest purpose.

The Mercury Retrograde in my humble opinion is the catalyst for change. Please read the article below and take note of the dates when this is expected to occur. Keep a note book or diary of what happens on these dates, strange dreams or messages and anything that happens e.g people you meet, conversations, opportunities etc. This will all be useful to piece together your soul’s true desire and intention.

Animal signs – all good?

A lot of has been said about spiritual signs in the form of animals. Birds, even insects such as butterflies and other animals are often signs from our family in spirit to provide comfort to the living. Grief is a difficult emotion that takes time to fade away but never goes away. All of us have different ways of coping and for some a visit from a robin for example can be very comforting and a beautiful sign from the loved ones.

But there is another element to this that doesn’t often get discussed often enough –  visits as a warning. As a child I was always fascinated by my mother’s way of seeing both positive and negative signs from animals. My mother saw butterflies as a sign for visitors. She would even know who or what sort of visitors based on the butterfly’s size and colour. If a white butterfly came fluttering by as she picked mangoes from our tree, she would say “oh I think your grandma is coming to visit” . The white butterfly would be accompanied by a brown one. True enough my grandmother would turn up either later that day or the next day accompanied by one of my aunts.

Owls and crows in particular would appear when there was bad news to come. Crows who come bearing bad news have a different attitude. They often look at you differently and have a more gentle way about them. There is huge superstition about them throughout the ages. I am sure some of you have heard “A crow on the thatch, soon death lifts the latch.”  The crow has had plenty of myths and theories flung its way throughout the ages including “shapeshifter” and the carrier of lost souls. You can read the crows significance in Indian mythology here

As I grew older and more rebellious, I would often dismiss this as “nonsense” as you may remember from my other posts, I was struggling with my own spirituality in my teens so this was another strange or unproven theory which I wanted to shrug off. But of course the more you resist something, the more you get tested. I started to see the signs more and accepted the crow was an important part of spiritual signs.

I have come to understand they are indeed highly intuitive as well as intelligent and sense the energy around people. They come to warn us but also to give us strangely a sense of comfort as well. They are very empathetic and bring healing as well as news.

So this Wednesday I was standing near the patio doors by chance and a crow flew onto my garden table. It stood there looking at me, bowed its head and flew away, as mysteriously as it appeared.  I heard a message right there and then, that I would hear some sad news soon.

Today my mother called to let me know that my cousin passed away on Wednesday. One of the pitfalls of being an expat is not being able to be there for important events. I do hope that he finds peace where he is now. I am so grateful to the little ‪#‎crow‬ who came by to warn me.

Not all crows are the same so don’t get too alarmed if you keep seeing crows around you. The ones who bear sad news have a different mannerism and will want to connect with you. Always pay attention to any messages that pop into your head, signs that you may see or conversations afterwards. We shouldn’t be afraid of them or what they bring with them, it is beautiful that someone is trying to reach out and bring us some awareness of what is to come.

How to Help Your Children if They see Spirits

How to Help Your Children if They see Spirits

Mommy………daddy….there is a man in my room!

Apart from the disruption in sleep, the words above screamed at you in between sobs can make most parents want to run away and hide probably from both the Spirits as well as their children. First of all, it is tricky to explain to your little ones what they are experiencing if you are not very interested or aware of spirits. It is the same feeling I get when I am asked to calculate big numbers! Part of it is having to explain something you don’t fully understand but also it is incredibly difficult to see your little one feeling so scared about something you can’t see or feel.  Parents have a natural instinct to protect their children and when they can’t, it feels like your hands are tied and it is frustrating.

As someone who suffered tremendously as a child with spiritual experiences and learned to deal with it on my own, I have been thinking of writing this post and a possible e-book for a long time but as usual I get side tracked and never got around it. But Spirit have ways to get me to do things! I had several clients who came to see asking about the very same topic – all having children who see spirits and don’t know what to do to help them, messages from friends and some former clients. So despite having a hundred and one things to do today, I was pulled to the laptop and the words are flowing as we speak.

First thing you need to understand is that we are all born intuitive and the ability to see spirit. As we grow older and as the mind analyses everything and our thoughts are influenced by our upbringing or our own opinions, some of us “forget” that part of our self.  The second most important point is that spirits mean no harm. It is our fear of them or the unknown that makes us “feel” the negative energy.

The most common visits are from family in Spirit. Grandparents, parents or anyone related to the child will want to visit and if possible, communicate their love. Of course not all of them know how to and children may only be able to see shadows which in the dark looks scary.

It is not uncommon for strangers who may have lived in the house before your family moved in or on the plot of land the house was built on, come for a little look. Put yourself in their position and ask yourself, wouldn’t you do the same? Would you not visit your grandchild after you passed? Or come by to see the house you had the best memories in? The answer is a big YES!

Children have more spiritual experiences than psychic at the beginning as it takes time for them to fully understand and flex their psychic ability while being able to see or feel Spirit is easier as they have no preconceived notions, prejudice or fear – you can say this is an open door for spiritual experiences. If they are meant to be spiritually connected throughout their lives then this will continue and they will attract mentors and helpers to develop their abilities.

The challenge is their reaction to a Spirit visit. Fear comes naturally as when the lights are out and they see a shadow or a person standing in their bedroom who is not someone they recognise. Children have a natural curiosity and will want to know more – who, why and what. Others will be shaken to the core because they KNOW that they are seeing Spirit or something they can’t fully understand.

Why did I write this? I KNOW how it feels! I learned from my own experiences and want to help the new generation of children to be more comfortable with the Spiritual world. I spent a long time fearing and thinking Spirits were evil and scary. But I know better now and I fully appreciate every moment I spent working with Spirit.

I had spirits visiting me from a very young age but it was only when I was 10 when I realised that the people I was seeing were actually spirits. It scared me and I wasn’t very comfortable because I couldn’t understand their presence and the feelings that would come with it. For example a cold spot on my arm, goosebumps or sensing their death or hearing a message – it all freaked me out. Of course now a medium, this is all normal and I don’t feel negativity at all when I am near spirit. But as a child it was scary, intrusive and really affected my life in ways I cannot even begin to explain.

For many years I slept with the lights on and in fact always had the light on in hotel rooms or when I was alone in the house, I hated the dark, I had nightmares, disturbed sleep, felt misunderstood, and thought I was a misfit.

My parents tried everything to help me and my dad would often get to sleep really late as he would stay up in case I had a nightmare or an experience whereby I would start screaming in the night. It would take ages for them to calm me down and for me to go back to sleep. My mother would pray for me and sing devotional songs to make me feel better. I remember seeing several mediums and medicine men to help me but nothing helped. I had all sorts of charms and protective things around my bed and in my pillow to help but it just went on for years. I also suffered from sleep paralysis for a long time and I don’t have to tell you how absolutely terrifying an experience it was for me as a child. I mistakenly thought I was being attacked by spirits and that added to my fear.

So what have I learned from my own experiences? And what advise can I give to parents? Here is my essential list on how you can help your children:

  • First of all, it is important to have an open dialogue with your young ones. Try to understand what they are seeing. Write it down in a book with a date and time of when they wake up.
  • Look back at what you have written down later that day. Try to understand what your child experienced that night. For example:  Tim said he saw a tall man wearing a hat, standing next to the wardrobe. He had a cane and was reaching out for Tim.  Now if you look at this information – you have information about a spirit contact – tall man who lived in an era where men wore hats and possibly dressed in a suit. Now think about someone in spirit who matches that description on both  you and your partner’s side of the family. Was Is it a grandfather or great grandfather? Ask family members and maybe have a look at an old photo album. You may well find a photo that links to the Spirit contact. Allow your child to view the photo and explain who this person was, if possible describe their character. Now from Tim’s description it sounds like the spirit contact merely wanted to say hello and was reaching out with affection. Explain to the child that sometimes, when someone passes into the light, they do come back to say hello and to show love.  Take the fear and negativity out of that experience so that all that remains is LOVE and the child is now able to enjoy the experience.
  • You can also teach your children to speak to the spirit contact. They can also be taught to say something simple like “thank you for visiting but I want to sleep now” so that sets a sort of boundary that Spirit will respect.
  • If your children are a little older and able to write, give them a journal, help them decorate it and call it their “spiritual journal” or whatever you both would like to call it. Guide them to write down their experiences. There may even be messages from spirit but also from their own intuition.
  • Guide them to “humanise” the spirit contact. I know it sounds weird but by teaching them to have a conversation with the Spirit, it almost makes it a more normal experience.  They can ask “what is your name? “who are you” “Do you know my parents? “where do you live? So this allows the fear to take second place.  You will find that they will get more curious and be able to talk about it without any fear.
  • You can clear the energy in their room by smudging the house and areas where they see the spirit contact with white sage. I always have a lighted candle on a clean plate and a shell for my sage to rest on as I walk around the house. You can say “whoever who is visiting, please go to the light. We politely ask you to leave this space”
  • Sensitive children can also feel the pain of the spirit contact’s passing or even their emotions. For example if a grandchild was born after a grandmother has passed, she may feel great sadness at not being alive for the birth and being able to physically hold that child. Spirits sometimes miss their “physical” life and it can seem sad. Some children will feel it more than others. It is up the parents to understand and explain this to the children as they grow older.
  • The most important thing parents can do is to try to understand what their children are going through and not dismiss their experiences as “nonsense” or “rubbish” or worse still blame it on their over active imagination. It is very frustrating for children who can’t express themselves clearly to be told what they are experiencing is not important!
  • The best way to help someone is to understand what the other person is going through. Read up about how mediumship, spiritual experiences and how the different gifts work. There is plenty of free information on the Internet and books you can read.
  • Get support – you can take them to your local spiritual church. They will be able to give both you and your child important insights and recommend useful books and reading material. Almost all Spiritual Churches have a development circle where people can learn the basics, attend every week to expand their knowledge and experience with Spirit. I am not entirely sure if they do work with children but I have seen teenagers attend. This is something to consider if you feel your child has an interest in developing spiritually.
  • Go see an experienced and knowledgeable medium either with your child or on your own to get better insight into how it all works.
  • Don’t doubt your children if they say they see spirits. This is a guarantee that they will suffer from insecurities and feel misunderstood. The most important thing you can do is to LISTEN and acknowledge what they are going through.
  • Just remember that most of the time Spirit people show themselves because they are truly desperate to be acknowledged. They want to reach out and they want to communicate. The more your explain what the child is experiencing, the more they will be comfortable and relaxed. But to do this, you the parent need to be comfortable with THEIR experiences.

Finally as the parent you need to make the effort to take the fear out of the experience and perhaps also be open to learning more about the spirit world. Understand that they come in contact with us to say hello and to reach out. They don’t mean us any harm but then you have to realise that not all spirits are the same. Some can be a little too eager than others which means they aren’t familiar with their communication skills and then to give out the wrong message or be a little clumsy.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or would like me to support your child in their development.

I love feedback so please feel free to leave me a comment and let me know if this was useful to you.

Spiritual Boundaries

I was reluctant to tell people that I could see, hear and sense Spirit when I was younger. You feel put on the spot and at times, a performing circus act. “So who is here now then? “Is this place haunted? “Shall I call you Mystic Meg now? All sorts of questions and comments would come flying and I used to feel so overwhelmed. So I clammed up and made my Spiritual awareness a dirty little secret. The Spirit world were cruel though. They would swamp me with so much sensitivity that I would blab to people around me thinking they “needed” to hear the messages. I didn’t realise that it was more important to know if they “want” the message. When someone is not ready or interested, then it could freak people out and often cause confusion. There is a right place and time for it. I remember telling a friend that there was a negative energy in his house which he needed to clear and as he was a non believer, broke off our friendship. He didn’t like receiving the message especially as he had just rented the property. Sure enough there was an incident afterwards but he still refused to talk to me. I was incredibly hurt and couldn’t understand his anger  when all I was trying to do was help. This is a trap that spiritually aware folks fall into. We get so wrapped up in our ability which allows us to have insight that others don’t that we go beyond the call of duty.

The lesson I learned is that unless someone asks, don’t jump in and assume that they need to know what you know. Spiritual awakening is one thing but living with it is all about respect, boundaries and knowing when to say something and when to keep quiet.

For some people who have had spiritual awakening  later in life, it is natural to feel like you need to shout it out from the rooftops. I have seen some who go from one extreme to the other or seem to be an overnight expert in everything. Obviously one of us can really know exactly what each person is going through but this is my take on it. Give yourself time to truly understand what YOU are going through and be comfortable with it first. It is like getting an email from National Lottery saying you have won a prize on the latest draw but instead of checking how much you won, what numbers were successful and how this will change your life etc, you run off announcing to the world that you won. You’ve made plans to celebrate, told everyone, planned out what you want to buy and so on. But then obviously what if the prize was £100 and not the £1 million you envisioned?

I know I am not being too conservative when I say, take your time, be sensible, be in the here and now before you react. I feel the longevity of your spirituality will be enhanced by being a little cautious at the start. It took me years before I truly accepted my spiritual self  and nearly 32 years before I responded to my calling, which is to work with the spiritual world. I am truly humbled to hear of how some of the renowned mediums, some of who I have had the privilege of training under, spent years in development before they even considered being one. I regularly spend time and money to develop my abilities and expand my knowledge. I sit in meditation to allow my Spirit family to teach me. Who best to teach you about the Spirit world than the discarnate?

I didn’t grow up in an environment where positive spiritual development and circles were available so I did most of it myself and through the help of my spiritual influencers. But I have learned the hard way of putting boundaries in place, instilling respect in yourself and in the spirit world, and most of all, trusting yourself.
